To configure Netscape to download Excel 5.0 files, go to the Options menu and choose General Preferences. Click on the Helpers tab and check to see if Microsoft Excel is listed as a helper application. If not, choose New and type in application for the Mime type and Excel for the Subtype. Then click on Browse, find the Excel 5.0 application on your computer, and load it as the application. Type xls into the Extension box and click the radio button labeled Launch as the action to take. Be sure that XLS is chosen as the File type.
